Why doesn't the United States use the SVD/Dragunov Sniper Rifle?
Why doesn't any of the U.S. Military use it?
Wrong question. WHY would the United States use the Dragonov SVD? Or hell, why didn't the Soviet's use the M21 and/or M24?
The Dragunov, like all weapons was designed to meet the specific operational requirements of its user - the Soviet Union. Not only was the Soviet Union our arch-enemy at the time the SVD was created (and one does not adopt weapons produced by ones enemies) but the doctrine for its use is dramatically different than American doctrine for precision rifles. The American's employ sniper rifles differently and there require different tools for that job, which we developed ourselves to meet our specific requirements.
